I couldn't resist using the leftover buttons to decorate the lemon cupcakes. The detail on these buttons is amazing, especially since some of them are so small.
Here are my supplies. I purchased two button molds, and I was glad I did since it made the process go much faster.
First melt a small amount of wafers in the microwave. Stir every 20 seconds, and be sure not to burn them. This will only take a minute to a minute and a half.
I poured the melted chocolate into a plastic squeeze bottle and filled each spot.
The squeeze bottle made this pretty easy. You could also use a plastic ziplock bag with the corner cut off. I haven't had great success with the ziplock bag method in the past, so I didn't even attempt it. Once the molds are all filled gently tap on the counter and the chocolate will spread evenly over the mold making the tops flat and even. Place in the freezer for two to three minutes.
Remove from the freezer and tap the back of the mold to release the buttons. Don't be afraid to bend or be firm with the mold, some of the buttons will be more difficult to release.
Feel free to use the tip of sharp knife to help those more difficult ones out of the mold.
Repeat this process with as many colors as you want.
I have never worked with candy molds or chocolate melting wafers before trying these buttons. It was much easier than I expected, and the results were much better than I anticipated.
